The sacred and the profane, my austrian photographs

Più volte ho detto come  l’editing sia una fase importante nel mio processo creativo. Io lo faccio con molta attenzione anche quando sono semplici foto delle vacanze. E le foto che superano le mie selezioni iniziano a dialogare fra di loro. A volte ne escono dei dittici, altre volte mi raccontano piccole storie che io non avevo visto consciamente quando fotografavo.

I already told you that editing is  a vital point in my creative process. Even when it’s about simple holiday photos. And the ones which survive my selection start to dialog among themselves. Sometimes they result in diptychs, sometimes they tell me short  stories I did not notice consciously when photographing.

Questo è stato il caso mentre guardavo le stampe da una delle pellicole dalla mia vacanza in Austria. Vi ricordo che erano foto scattate senza un piano preciso, solo per divertimento adoperando una macchina analogica con una sola focale (50mm per gli interessati ai dettagli tecnici). Tipiche foto delle vacanze. E queste foto mi hanno raccontato un percorso che che ho chiamato dal sacro al profano.

This is what happened when I was looking at some of the pictures from one of the film I shot during my last holiday in Austria. I just remind you that I shot photos without a specific plan, just to amuse myself using a film camera with a fixed lens (50mm for the lovers of technical details). The typical holiday snaps. And these photos told me about a short story which I called “from the sacred to the profane.”

Selezionare e fare sequenze, che non siano semplicemente temporali ma accostino immagini per contenuti, forme, grafica, affinità o contrasti è un bell’esercizio per il fotografo. E a me piace al punto di sembrare un gioco!

Editing and sequencing , in a way which does not follow only a simple time line but puts one photo beside the others because of content, forms, graphic, affinity or contrast is always a good exercise for the photographer. And I like it so much that it seems a game!
