Non solo una rivista
Sono diversi i piaceri della fotografia: quello di scattare e fissare momenti nel tempo, emozioni che ci hanno colpito, situazioni uniche oppure la vita di tutti i giorni. C’è un altro piacere che a volte sottovalutiamo, un poco per pigrizia, un poco perchè presi dalle faccende di tutti i giorni. Ed è quello di condividere le nostre immagini con altre persone.
There are various pleasures when we photograph: the pleasure to shoot and freeze a moment in the time, to capture strong emotions, sometimes unique situations or our daily life. But there is another pleasure which sometimes we underevaluate because of some laziness or because too busy in our daily routines. And it is the pleasure to share our images with other people.
Al giorno d’oggi il web offre molte possibilità di condividere le proprie foto per esempio attraverso i social più o meno specializzati o anche con un semplice blog come questo. In aggiunta a queste possibilità io apprezzo e valuto molto l’esperienza fisica del guardare le foto: il semplice fatto di recarsi in un posto per vedere una mostra oppure sfogliare un libro o una rivista con delle immagini crea con queste una relazione diversa, secondo me più profonda. Oserei dire più intima.
Today the web offers many possibilities to share our images, through more or less specialized social media or with a simple blog like this one. In addition to these possibilities I appreciate and value very much the physical experience when we look at pictures: the simple fact to go to a certain place to watch an exhibition or to leaf through the pages of a book or a magazine creates a different relationship with the images, a deeper one. I dare to say more intimate.
“Imperfect Moments” è la fotozine che ho preparato con le Polaroid del viaggio e che erano parte della mia recente mostra fotografica. E’ una specie di diario visivo di questa esperienza che potete trovare a questo indirizzo se desiderate vederla e forse anche acquistarla, sarebbe un bellissimo regalo a qualche vostro amico o amica appassionati di Polaroid!
“Imperfect Moments” is the photozine I made with the Polaroid from our roadtrip and which were one part of my recent exhibition. It’s a visual travel diary about this experience which you can find at this link to visualize and eventually to purchase, it could be a nice present for a friend who is passionate about Polaroid.
Ma ho voluto fare anche qualche cosa di speciale e ho preparato una versione in edizione limitata fatta a mano. Come nella zine una foto per ogni giorno di viaggio, stampata su carta cotone in formato A5 e con rilegatura giapponese. Solamente nove copie numerate.
But I wanted also to make something special therefore I prepared an hand made limited version edition. There is one picture for each travel day, printed on cotton paper size A5 and with a japanes binding. Only nine numbered copies.
Perchè? Semplicemente per il piacere di aver chiuso questo lavoro con qualche cosa di bello!
Why? Simply because of the pleasure to complete this work with something nice!
E voi condividete le vostre immagini, fotografie o dipinti e disegni? E come vi piace guardare i lavori di altri fotografi o artisti? Preferite la velocità e comodità del web magari in poltrona con un bicchiere di buon … (inserite la vostra bevanda preferita) in mano o amate vedere qualcosa di concreto, una mostra, un quadro oppure un libro? E’ chiaro che una cosa non esclude l’altra! Ed è bello vivere in un momento che ci offre molte possibilità diverse!
And how do you share your images, photos or drawing and paintings? And how do you like to look at them? Do you prefer the speed and comfort ot the web maybe with a glass of good … (insert your preferred drink) or do you prefer to look at something more tangible like an exhibition, a painting or a photogrphy book? Of course one thing doesn’t exclude the other! It is nice to live in a moment which offers us many different possibilities

the quiet photographer 
I do love sharing on the web, but you’re right, the experience of handling a book or viewing prints in a gallery, si more intimate, and more physical. There have been a few times when I was really inspired at a museum by a physical print and told myself, “You have to make prints!” But I never get around to it. So it’s a pleasure to see what you have created – it’s beautiful. What a nice idea to go even farther and make the limited edition version.
Thanks for your comment, you should really try to make a few prints sometimes! Of course sharing on the web works well and what is interesting it allows for a worldwide audience. It’s nice to have many different opportunities!

What a lovely accomplishment and a lot of work and expense to produce the physical copies. I think I like most to view images (all art) on a wall or display. There is something transcendental about seeing an object in its real glory. I spend more time looking more carefully at objects in a gallery. However, I don’t get to galleries often enough, so I see a lot of art online. And much of it is very good, but I think without that tangible quality, I simply consume online art rather than interacting with it, if that makes sense.

I have to say I’m in a privileged position: I live not far from Milan, half an hour by train where there are many museums, galeries or bookshops where art is displayed. And of course I’m reatired and for the moment still healthy enough to go there. But I also like to look for something different and in this case the net offers many possibilities. So as you say I’m as well an art consumer! Real museum or net surfing for art are both a good way so long we put our interest in them!
