2020: let’s start!

2020: partiamo !

Vorrei iniziare quest’anno in modo positivo, nonstante tanti avvenimenti che preoccupanonel mondo.

Non faccio più propositi per l’anno nuovo, negli anni ho imparato che dopo qualche tempo svaniscono nel vento…ma tengo presente le cose importanti…lo scorso gennaio fa mi ero segnato sul mio libricino un appunto…

I would like to start the year in a positive way, in spite of many worrying circumstances in our world.

I do not make new year resolutions, I learned  that after a few months (weeks?) they fly away in the wind…but I keep in mind the important things…last january I took a few notes in my small booklet…

Fotografia, disegno, cinema  e libri sono importanti per me e allora inizio con le mie prime letture per quest’anno.

Photography, drawings, movies and books are important to me, therefore I start with my books for this new  year.

Amo leggere cose diverse, a volte per rilassarmi, altre volte per imparare, quasi sempre perchè leggere aiuta a sviluppare idee. E idee nuove aiutano a rimanere mentalmente in forma e creativi.

I love to read different things, sometimes to relax, other times to learn, almost always because reading helps to develop new ideas. And new ideas help to stay mentally fit and creative.

Non sono bravo a recensire i libri, soprattutto quelli che non ho ancora letto! E allore vi racconto solo cosa mi aspetto da questa selezione. Un giorno forse vi dirò se mi hanno soddisfatto oppure no.

I am not able to properly review a book, especially the books I haven’t yet read! Therefore I’ll simply tell you what I’m especting from this selection. Later I’ll let you know if it was satisfying or not.

Inizio con il regalo di una buona amica “Atlante Leggendario delle strade d’Islanda“. di Jon R. Hjalmarsson.  Evidentemente un’amica che mi conosce bene e sa dove mi piacerebbe fare un viaggio! Quando ci andrò (forse e se ci andrò) mi piacerà collegare i paesaggi a queste storie di di troll, elfi, spettri, eroi e stregoni.

First in the list is a present from a good friend “A traveller’s guide to Icelandic folk tales“ by Jon R. Hjalmarsson. It’s evident my friend knows me  very well  and is aware of where I would like to make a trip! When I’ll go there (perhaps and if I’ll go) I’ll like to connect the places with these stories of trolls,  elves, wizards, ghosts, mermen and a host of other mysterious beings.

Christa Wolf (1029-2011) è stata una scrittrice che mi ha sempre interessato anche per la sua esperienza di vita  attraverso regimi politici molto diversi, dall’estrema destra durante l’adolscenza al realismo socialista della Repubblica Democratica Tedesca per finire con la riunificazione della Germania dopo la caduta del muro di Berlino. In questo libro finora inedito  ” Epitaffio per i vivi” si parla di una ragazzina quindicenne costretta alla fuga dal proprio paese nel gennaio 1945. In questi tempi con grosse migrazioni in atto sarà certamente un testo interessante.

I have always been interested in the writer Christa Wolf because of her life experience through very different political regimes, starting from the youth under the extreme right to the adhesion to the Socialist Unity Party of Germany to finish with the German reunification after the fall fo the Berlin Mauer. In this book “Epitaffio per i vivi” which I dare to translate as “Epitaph for the livings” she tell us about a 15 years old girl who is forced in january 1945 to escape and leave her country. In a time with migrations around us it will be surely an interesting text.

E’ un piccolo libro per dimensioni ma una piacevolissima lettura: “Poesia al Cinema, Poesie in Film” di Marcella Continanza. E’ una raccolta di  brevi testi di vari autori sulla poesia nel cinema, poesia presente in alcune scene perchè recitata o  perchè le immagini stesse sono poetiche, come il paesaggio desertico della frontiera americana accompagnato dalla struggente chitarra di Ry Cooder in “Paris, Texas” di Wim Wenders. Oppure  nel finale di “Andreij Rublev” di Tarkovskij la fitta pioggia che cade sui cavalli, immagine metafora del segno della vita.

It’s a small size book but a very pleasant read: “Poetry at the theater, poetries in the movies” by Marcella Continanza. It’s a collection of short texts about poetry in the movies, where poetry refers to words because declaimed  or it is a visual poetry when the images themselves are poetic, like the desert areas of the american frontier with the heart-wrenching sound of the guitar of Ry Cooder in “Paris, Texas” by Wim Wenders. Or in the final scenes of “Andreij Rublev” by Tarkovskij the heavy rain falling on the horses, metaphor of the sign  of the life.

Ho nominato Tarkovskij (1932-1986) e fra i miei nuovi  libri c’è anche il suo “Scolpire il tempo riflessioni sul cinema“. E’ certamente un testo impegnativo, più da studiare che da leggere e io lo prenderò a piccole dosi. Leggere, riflettere, prendere qualche appunto, rileggere. Ma sono sicuro che  sarà interessante e utile per le mie esperienze visive, fotografia o disegno. Chi segue questo blog sa già che io amo la fotografia Polaroid e Tarkovskij  ha anche scattato molte Polaroid durante la sua attività, pubblicate in un altro bellissimo libricino (amo i libri piccoli di dimensioni ma con forte contenuto) dal titolo “Luce Istantanea”. L’articolo è in inglese ma le foto le potete vedere a questo link. E non dobbiamo dimenticare che  Arsenij Tarkovskij padre del regista era un poeta. Per chi legge in italiano e vuole avere un idea del contenuto di questo “Scolpire il tempo riflessioni sul cinema” rimando a questo interessante articolo che ci parla di Leonardo Da Vinci nei film di Tarkovskij…

I mentioned Andreij Tarkovskij (1032-1986) and among my new books there is his “Sculpting in time“. For sure it is a demanding text, more a book to study than to read and  will require small steps, read, think, take a note, read again. But I’m sure it will be interesting and useful for my visual experiences, both photography and drawing. Who follows this blog already knows I love to shoot Polaroid and Tarkovskij as well took many Polaroid during his activity collected in a small lovely book (how much do I love small books with a strong content!) titled “Instant Light: Tarkovskij Polaroid“. Poetic images (you can see them in the link) very near to the spirit of the movie director whose father Arsenij Tarkovskij was a poet.

Un altro libro he mi aspetto ricco di spunti è “Cromorama come il colore ha cambiato il nostro sguardo” di Riccardo Falcinelli, visual designer. Nel mio passato lavorativo il colore è stato importante e ora lo è ancora! Storia, arte, industria, mode…di questo sarà bello approfondire quale sia stata l’influenza del colore. Se vi incuriosisce qui trovate une bella intervista con l’autore.

A proposito: voi lo sapevate che le carote in origine non erano arancioni?

I’m expecting many prompts from “Cromorama, how the colour changed our gaze” by the visual designer Riccardo Falcinelli. Colour was an important presence in my working days and now it still is! History, art, fashion, industry…it will be interesting to know how these have been influenced by the colour.

By the way: did you know that the colour of the carrots originally was not orange?
