Questa è la zine che ho realizzato ultimamente. Oggi vorrei raccontarne la storia, l’idea e la realizzazione e il perchè una zine cartacea a bassa fedeltà  in un mondo digitale connesso via internet.

This is a zine I made short time ago. Today I would like to tell you its story, the idea and the realisation and why a paper made low-fi zine in a digital world so much connected via internet.

Alla fine dell’estate scorsa mia moglie ed io abbiamo deciso di trascorrere qualche giorno sul lago di Como, in Tremezzina. E’ una zona che frequentiamo da molti anni e dove nell’albergo condotto sempre dalla stessa famiglia ci sentiamo a casa. C’è quiete e la vista è bellissima.

At the end of last summer my wife and I decided to spend a few days on Lake Como, in Tremezzina. It is an area we have been frequenting for many years and where in the hotel always conducted by the same family we feel at home. It is quiet and the view is beautiful.

Ovviamente appasionato di fotografia ho pensato di fare alcune foto, ma mi sono posto un problema: come fotografare un posto già fotografato da me moltissime volte senza ripetermi?

Obviously as a photography enthusiast, I thought of taking some photos, but I faced a problem: how to photograph a place that has already been photographed by me many times without repeating myself?

La risposta mi è arrivata sfogliando un libro di Karl Lagerfeld, “Fotografie” e guardando le sue foto della Fontana di Trevi: il contrasto fra la fluidità dell’acqua e l’immobilità della pietra potevano essere il punto di partenza anche delle mie foto.

The answer came when I was  browsing through a book by Karl Lagerfeld “Fotografie”  and looking at his pictures of the Trevi’s Fountain: the contrast between the fluidity of the water and the stillness of stone could be the starting point of my pictures.

Quano penso a un progetto prendo sempre degli appunti. Evitare (se possibile) di fare cartoline, cioè foto già viste tantissime volte, cercare fontane e lavatoi, piccoli corsi d’acqua, vicoli, entieri, dettagli di vechie case, senza dimanticare le tartarughe che ci sono nella  vasca di fronte alla Chiesa di S.Lorenzo.

When I think about a project I always take notes. Avoid (if possible) making postcards, that is, photos that have already been seen so many times, look for fountains and washtubs, small streams, alleys, paths, details of old houses, not forgetting the turtles that are in the pond in front of the Church of St. Lawrence.

Volevo anche che le foto avessero un “look” loro,  personale. Allora ho deciso di fotografare su pellicola in B&N. Un kit leggero, dopotutto era una vacanza: una macchina con un obiettivo (focale fissa per i lettori più tecnici) e un altro piccolo obiettivo nella borsa. Semplicemente. Senza complicazioni. Come sempre quando fotografo.

I also wanted the photos to have a “look” of their own, personal. So I decided to shoot on film in B&W. A light kit, after all it was a vacation: a camera with one lens (fixed focal length for the more technical readers) and another small lens in the bag. Simply. Uncomplicated. As always when I take photos.

Fatte le foto, tornati a casa, sviluppate e scansionate le pellicole ho fatto una serie di piccole stampe. A questo punto mi sono chiesto come procedere. Chi segue questo blog da tempo conosce già quanto a me piaccia la fotografia stampata, la foto tangibile che si può tenere in mano. E’ vero, internet offre molte possibiltà per condividere i propri lavori e questo blog ne fa parte. E ne sono contento. Però io credo  che una fotografia stampata, un oggetto fisico, un libro o una rivista offrano un modo diverso di fruizione. La lentezza nel guardarla o nello sfogliarne le pagine, il tatto della carta, il suono delle pagine di una rivista quando vengono girate fanno parte di un’altra altra esperienza. Non voglio dire un’esperienza migliore, dico semplicemente diversa  che io valuto importante e piacevole.

After having taken the photos, returned home, developed and scanned the films, I made a series of small prints. At this point I wondered how to proceed. Those who have been following this blog for some time already know how much I like printed photography, the tangible object that you can hold in your hand. True, the Internet offers many opportunities to share one’s work, and this blog is part of it. And I’m glad for that. But I believe that a printed photograph, a physical object, a book or a magazine offer a different way of enjoyment. The slowness of looking at it or flipping through its pages, the feel of the paper, the sound of the pages of a magazine when turned are part of another experience. I don’t mean a better experience, I simply mean different which I think is important and enjoyable.

Allora ho deciso di presentare questo lavoro in forma di piccola rivista, che per me che provengo dai tempi (gloriosi!) del ciclostile doveva essere una “zine” tutta fatta in casa e senza troppe pretese. Così ho scelto un formato che potessi stampare con la mia ink-jet su un foglio A4 e che mi permetesse di stampare una foto intera su una doppia pagina. E per fare una zine a bassa fedeltà ho scelto una carta non fotografica, una carta da spolvero per schizzi ottenuta  da bamboo perchè mi piace avere quando possibile una dose  di attenzione ecologica.

So I decided to show this work in form of a small magazine, which for me who come from the times of cyclostyle (I guess it can be translated as mimeograph) had to be a “zine” all made in house and without too much expectation. Therefore I went for a size and a layout which I could print with my inkjet on a A4 sheet and where I could print a full photo on a double page. And to keep a low profile I decided to print not on high quality photo paper but on a sketching paper, bamboo made in order to keep an eye on the echological aspects.

Quando si mettono insieme più foto è importante sceglierle, fare un editing appropriato ma è ancora più importante decidere in quale sequenza e dove metterle. Due foto vicine possono rafforzarsi a vicenda oppure indebolirsi. A volte una pagina bianca di fronte a un immagine può dire molto di più che una pagina piena di foto. Il mio metodo consiste nel…provare, provare e provare ancora diverse combinazioni finchè mi sembra di essere soddisfatto. E se necessario coinvolgo anche qualche amico per avere una sua opinione. Siccome amo lavorare con le immagini fisiche questo significa avere nel mio piccolo studio (e non solo) foto un poco dappertutto! Ma siamo onesti:  in realtà questo è un piacere!

When putting several photos together, it is important to choose them, to do proper editing, but it is even more important to decide in what sequence and where to put them. Two photos close together can either strengthen each other or weaken. Sometimes a blank page in front of an image can say a lot more than a page full of photos. My method is to…try, try and try again different combinations until I feel I am satisfied. And if necessary I also involve a few friends to get their opinion. Since I love working with physical images this means having in my small studio (and not only there) photos all over the place! But let’s be honest: this is actually a pleasure!

A queto punto mancava solo qualche parola per rendere meglio  la storia: non troppe per lasciare il racconto alle immagine, dopotutto amo esprimermi con la fotografia!

Now were only missing a few words to complete the story: not many because I wanted to leave the narrative to the pictures, after all I love to exprime myself with the photography!

Stampare, tagliare, rifilare, piegare e assemblare le pagine è stata parte del divertimento. Di questa prima “edizione” ho fatto circa 30 copie che ho distribuito ad amici e conoscenti un poco ovunque. Il loro apprezzamento è stato  per me la maggior soddsfazione, tanto che un nuovo numero dal tema per ora top secret è allo studio ! Rimanete in contatto!

Printing, cutting, trimming, folding and assembling the pages was part of the fun. Of this first “edition” I made about 30 copies which I distributed to friends and acquaintances a little everywhere. Their appreciation was the greatest satisfaction for me, so much so that a new issue with a top secret theme will come, soon or later ! Keep in touch!

PS: da ottobre quando ho scattato le foto ad ora è trascorso molto tempo. Abbiate pazienza, ma i tristi avvenuimenti che stanno accadendo, con il loro carico di morte, sofferenze, distruzioni e deportazioni non  mi lasciano sempre lo stato d’animo per concentrarmi su questi lavori.

PS: A lot of time has passed from when I took the photos to now. Bear with me, but the sad events that are happening, with their load of death, suffering, destruction and deportations do not always leave me in the frame of mind to concentrate on these works.

Nell’ articolo di una settimana fa c’era  la foto di alcuni negativi. Ora aggiungo l’immagine in positivo di quei negativi per facilitare la visione, se siete curiosi.  E un’altra foto da quella serie…

Work in progress, update

Negli ultimi giorni abbiamo avuto in casa dei lavori di parziale ristrutturazione. Ora muratori, idraulici e piastrellisti hanno finito la loro parte e tocca a noi pulire e rimettere un poco di ordine. Ci vorrà tempo. Ma prima di questi lavori siamo riusciti a fare qualche giorno di vacanza al nostro amato lago di Como. Dopo un terribile anno e mezzo con molti mesi di duro lockdown è stato bello.

In the last past days we had a partial renovation work at home. Now masons, plumbers and tilers have finished their part and it is up to us to clean and to tidy things up a bit. It will take some time. But before the start of the works we managed to spend a few days at our much loved Lake of Como. After such a terrible year with many months of hard lockdown it has been nice.

In questa occasione ho iniziato un nuovo piccolo progetto fotografico con tema acqua e pietre. In bianco e nero, scattato su pellicola. Ne parleremo nei prossimi post, continuate a leggere.

I took the opportunity to start a new small photographic project: the theme is water and stones. Black and white, shot on film. We’ll discuss it in the next posts.

C’è qualcosa di più bello che vedere un fogli di negativi sopra un visore? Si, forse il vedere almeno una foto finita!

Is there anything better than looking at a few  negatives on a lightable? Yes, perhaps to look at least at one finished photo!

Yes, Rothko

Dopo aver visto queste foto qualcuno lo ha pensato subito: l’ispirazione per questo progetto era Rothko.

 

After seeing these photos someone immediately thought it: the inspiration for this project is Rothko.

Indubbiamente un grande artista, una personalità complessa e tormentata, un uso del colore estremo. Infatti il colore è il modo con il quale Rothko si esprimeva. Puro colore. Combinazioni forti. Colore senza altri segni, senza traccia di pennellate. E dipinti di grande dimensione. Grande impatto per chi ci fosse di fronte. Come avrebbe potuto un artista talmente potente  non influenzare la mia visione?

Undoubtedly a great artist, a complex and tormented personality, an extreme use of color. In fact, color is the way Rothko expressed himself. Pure color. Strong combinations. Color without other signs, without a trace of brushstrokes. And paintings of great dimension. Great impact for those who were in front of them. How could such a powerful artist not have influenced my vision?

Per questo progetto, ancora in fase preliminare  ho pensato di abbinare l’idea dei campi di colore alle foto scattate nel mio quartiere ipotizzando un risultato quasi astratto. Le foto delle superfici mi sono sembrate le più idonee per un primo esperimento. E per rendere ogni immagine più personale ho deciso di stampare le foto in bianco e nero e poi colorarle manualmente  con l’acquarello.

For this project, still in the preliminary phase, I thought of combining the idea of color fields with photos taken in my neighborhood, assuming an almost abstract result. The photos of the surfaces seemed the most suitable for a first experiment. And to make each image more personal I decided to print the photos in black and white and then paint them manually with watercolor.

Può sembrare strano che un fotografo appassionato del bianco e nero si metta a lavorare sul colore. A volte il bello è proprio sperimentare, fare cose al di fuori delle proprie abitudini, correre dei rischi. Alla fine potrebbe succedere che i risultati non mi soddisfino e io decida di abbandonare questa via. Fa parte del gioco.

It may seem strange that a photographer with a passion for black and white would start working on color. Sometimes the best thing is to experiment, to do things outside of one’s own habits, to take risks. In the end, it may happen that I’m not satisfied with the results and I decide to abandon this path. It’s all part of the game.

Ma potrebbe anche succedere che da cosa nasce cosa e da questo esperimento nascano nuove idee. Nuove vie da tentare. Vedremo !

But it could also happen that one thing leads to another and from this experiment new ideas are born. New ways to try. We will see!

More than one year later, thoughts and photos

In questo articolo due pensieri contrastanti sulla mia reazione a questo lungo tempo di covid e qualche notazione fotografica.

In this post two contrasting thoughts about my reaction to this long covid time and a few photographic notes.

Ammetto che una mia reazione a quanto successo da un anno a questa parte è di rabbia. Alla mia età sono conscio di non avrere molto tempo davanti a me, e soprattutto di non sapere per quanto di questo tempo potrò godere di buona salute. E allora mi sento derubato, sono stato costretto a tante rinuncie. Quelle attività cui tenevo, che per me erano importanti, visitare mostre, musei, cineforum, incontrare persone care o interessanti. E viaggiare.

I admit that one reaction I have to what has happened in the past year is one of anger. At my age I’m aware that I don’t have much time ahead of me, and especially not knowing how much of that time I’ll be able to enjoy good health. So I feel robbed, I’ve been forced to give up so much. Those activities that I cared about, that were important to me, visiting exhibitions, museums, film forums, meeting dear or interesting people. And traveling.

 

Ma dopo ho anche una reazione di tipo contrario: penso che nonostante tutto quello che è accaduto io sono ancora qui, il virus non ha colpito me e nemmeno qualcuno dei miei cari, parenti e amici. Molte persone nel mondo, nel paese dove vivo e anche nella mia città non sono state così fortunate. E allora devo essere grato. E’ vero, ho addottato tutte le possibili precauzioni che oramai conosciamo bene ma sono anche stato fortunato.

But afterwards I also have the opposite reaction: I think that despite everything that happened I am still here, the virus did not affect me or any of my loved ones, relatives and friends. Many people in the world, in the country where I live and also in my city have not been so lucky. So I have to be thankful. It’s true, I took all the possible precautions that we know well by now but I was also lucky.

E allora mi sforzo di avere un atteggiamento positivo, rilassarmi e sorridere. E’ importante ricordarsi di sorridere. In attesa di poter un giorno abbracciare qualcuno senza paura, magari anche la prima persona che incontro per strada 🙂

So I strive to have a positive attitude, relax and smile. It’s important to remember to smile. Looking forward to one day being able to hug someone without fear, maybe even the first person I meet on the street 🙂

Ma questo blog è nato per parlare di fotografia e allora torniamo in argomento!

But this blog was born to talk about photography so let’s get back on topic!

La fotografia è stata insieme ai miei tentativi di imparare a disegnare la mia terapia in questo difficle tempo, e lo è tuttora. L’inverno scorso è stato caratterizzato da un lungo lockdown alternato a semi lockdown: in entrambi i casi non potevo lasciare la mia città ed ero autorizzato solo a brevi passeggiate non lontano da casa. Chi segue questo blog da tempo sa che ho sempre sostenuto si può fotografare ovunque e in qualsiasi situazione e per fare buona fotografia non è necessario viaggiare in posti lontani ed esotici, anche se questo può essere divertente. E allora ho deciso di lavorare sulla zona dove vivo.

Photography has been together with my attempts to learn how to draw my therapy in this difficult time, and it still is. Last winter was characterized by a long lockdown alternating with semi lockdown: in both cases I could not leave my city and I was allowed only short walks not far from home. Those of you who have been following this blog for a long time know that I’ve always said you can take pictures anywhere and in any situation and to take good pictures you don’t need to travel  far away and to exotic places, even if this can be fun. So I decided to work on the area where I live.

Mi sono chiesto cosa e come fotografare in un parte di una normale cittadina postindustriale priva di  particolari attrattive. Pensando anche a movimenti come quello della new topographic, termine coniato nel 1975 da William Jenkins e relativa mostra ho deciso di fotografare semplicemente i luoghi che percorrevo durante le mie rare e brevi uscite da casa insieme a mia moglie. L’esercizio era di trovare la bellezza nel banale.

I asked myself what and how to photograph in a part of a normal post-industrial town without any particular attraction. Thinking also of movements such as the new topographic, a term coined in 1975 by William Jenkins and related exhibition, I decided to simply photograph the places that I walked though during my rare and brief strolls out of the house with my wife. The exercise was to find beauty in the banal.

Ma volevo qualche cosa in più di una semplice documentazione e mi sono accorto che nei mesi da gennaio a marzo la luce poteva essere molto variabile. A giornate con luce bassa e diffusa, molto morbida che io amo molto si alternavano giornate con luce forte, limpida, obliqua con ombre nette e forti. Non è la mia luce preferita ma ho deciso di accettare le sfida e così la luce è entrata nel progetto.

But I wanted more than just documentation and I realized that during the months of January through March the light could be very variable. Days with low and diffuse light, very soft that I love very much, alternated with days with strong light, clear, oblique with sharp shadows. It’s not my favorite but I decided to accept the challenge and so the light entered the project.

Cari amici. sembra che il fotografo tranquillo abbia riposato un poco. Ma dietro le quinte ha anche lavorato. E allora questo 2021, invocato e aspettato inizia con l’augurio che tutti noi si vada verso la luce dopo tanti mesi di buio. In tanti sensi.

Dear friends. it seems that the quiet photographer rested a little. But behind the scenes he has also been working. And so this 2021, invoked and awaited begins with the wish that we all go towards the light after many monthd of darkness. In many ways.

Oscilliamo ancora fra un lockdown pieno da zona rossa e un semilockdown, zona arancione. Le mie rare “escursioni” sono pertanto limitate ai miei dintorni, al quartiere dove vivo.

We still oscillate between a full lockdown called red zone and a semi lockdown defined as orange zone. My rare “excursions” are therefore limited to my surroundings, to the neighborhood where I live.

E questo è uno dei temi sui quali sto lavorando fotograficamente, anche se non ho ancora ben definito come. Ci sono vari  aspetti, le strade e gli incroci, i dettagli dell’architettura, il verde pubblico, i giochi di luci e ombre.

And this is one of the themes I’m working on photographically, although I haven’t yet exactly  defined how. There are various aspects, the streets and intersections, the details of the architecture, the public greenery, the play of light and shadow.

Già, la luce. In inverno la luce può essere molto diversa da un giorno altro. Atmosfere nebbiose e  luce soffusa si possono alternare a giornate molto limpide, con sole basso sull’orizzonte e lunghe ombre molto nette. In genere per fotografare preferisco la luce debole e soffusa ma è per questo che può diventare interessante uscire dalla mia zona di comfort e vedere come riesco a lavorare in situazioni per me un poco scomode.

Yeah, the light. In winter the light can be very different from one day to the next. Foggy atmospheres and soft light can alternate with very clear days, with the sun low on the horizon and very sharp long shadows. Generally, I prefer soft light for photography, but that’s why it can be interesting to get out of my comfort zone and see how I can work in situations that are a little uncomfortable for me.

Il momento di stampare

Va bene lo so, il blog è lento ed io sono un ragazzaccio pigro! No, non è veramente così: ho trascurato un poco il blog perché preso da tanta attività, fotografica e non. La prova è sulla mia libreria (vi ho già detto come è utile avere in casa una libreria metallica dove appendere foto e disegni con piccole calamite?).

Ok, I know it, the blog is slow and I’m a lazy boy! No, it’s not really like that: I neglected the blog because very busy in many activities, photo related and not. The proof is my bookcase (did I already tell you how much useful is to have a bookcase with metallic shelves where you can hang photographs and drawings simply with small magnets?).

Looking beyond, as always

In questi giorni sto stampando materiale nuovo: una serie di foto che fanno parte di un progetto sulle piccole isole:  scattate su pellicole bianco e nero di  Impossible scansionate e poi stampate su carta cotone. Dopo alcune prove ho deciso di stampare su carta pesante con una forte trama e bordi frastagliati in due formati: A5 (mm 148×210) mantenendo la foto nelle dimensioni dell’originale con bordo bianco attorno per  quando desideriamo  “maneggiare” le stampe e in formato A3+ (mm 329 x 483) con bordi frastagliati, sempre con un ampio bordo bianco che ben si presta per esposizione. Pertanto il lavoro sarà costituito dalle foto originali Impossible, lucide e montate su passe-partout e da due serie di stampe su carta cotone opaca.

In these days I’m printing some new material: a series of photos which are part of a project about small islands: shot on black and white Impossible film, scanned and printed on cotton paper. After a few trials I decided to print on an heavy paper with a strong texture and irregular borders in two sizes: A5 (5.8 x 8.3 in) keeping the photo with the same size of the original and a wide white border around ideal when we like to have the prints in our hands and A3+ ( 12.9 x 19 in) which is appropriate for an exhibition. 

Ho anche stampato alcune foto da un viaggio di cui scriverò un’altra volta, ne vedete una che ho chiamato “looking beyond, as always” e un semplice ritratto di mia moglie (qualche giorno addietro era S.Valentino!).

I also printed a few pictures from a short trip (I’ll write about it in future) you can see one B&W I called “looking beyond as always“ and a simple portrait of my wife, yes it was Valentine Day !

Oltre alla fotografia sto dedicando tempo anche al disegno, e allora fra una lezione e l’altra appendo i miei esercizi per studiarli e vederne gli errori!

In addition to photography there are also my drawing lessons which are time consuming and between one lesson and the next one I like to hang my exercises to study them and see where the mistakes are!

Secondo me il modo migliore per studiare l’impaginazione di un libro fotografico è di sistemare le sequenze delle pagine per terra, in qualsiasi posto ove hai spazio….

In my opinion the best way to study the layout of a photo book is to place the sequences of the pages on the floor, where you have place…

La cosa bella nel preparare un dittico è che si possono combinare due immagini simili per forma o per significato. Oppure due immagini molto diverse, per creare una tensione.

Questo invece è un dittico un po’ casuale. Nella mia ricerca della foto imperfetta avevo estratto dei piccoli dettagli da alcune mie foto e avevo provato a stamparli. Per razionalizzare al meglio l’uso della carta li ho stampati molto vicini, sullo stesso foglio. E ho visto fra le altre foto queste due affiancate. Ritagliate le ho lasciate qualche mese sulla mia scrivania. Decantare le emozioni. Ora ho deciso che si, è un dittico.

One nice thing when you prepare a diptych is that you can combine two similar images for what concerns the visual or the concept. Or two very different images in order to create a strong tension.

But this is a casual diptych. When researching for the imperfect photo I extracted a few details from my pictures and I tried to print them. In order to better rationalise the use of the paper I print them one very near to the other, on the same page.  And among the others I saw these two, side by side. I cut and left them a few months on my desk. To settle the emotions. Now I decided yes, it’s a diptych.

Quando siamo molto impegnati il tempo vola, è la mia versione della relatività, scusa Albert, capisco sia troppo semplice! E allora iniziamo con il fare gli auguri a tutti, agli amici, ai lettori affezionati, ai lettori occasionali. Auguro a tutti voi una Buona Pasqua  insieme alle persone cui siete affezionati.

When you are busy time flies, this is my version of the theory of relativity, sorry Albert I know it is a little bit too simple! Therefore I start to wish you all, friends, readers both loyal and casual, everybody really an Happy Easter with the ones you love.

Recentemente la fotografia mi ha molto impegnato. Ho visitato due volte la mostra “America” a Villa Panza, Varese di uno dei miei registi e fotografi preferiti: Wim Wenders. Perché due volte? Primo perché mi è piaciuta un sacco sia per l’ambientazione sia per le foto. Secondo perché volevo in qualche modo appropriarmene, farla mia. Poiché era proibito scattare foto sono tornato con il libro-catalogo della mostra e su alcune pagine ho ricopiato alcune delle frasi che Wenders ha preparato come commento alle fotografie. Ho impiegato un po’ di tempo ma in questo modo i cieli americani, i negozi vuoti del Montana e le atmosfere alla Hopper sono diventate un po’ più mie!

Recently I have been very busy with photography. I visited twice the exhibition “America” by one of my preferred directors and photographers: Wim Wenders. Why twice? First because I enjoyed it very much, both the location and the pictures. Second because I wanted somehow to appropriate this exhibition, to make it a little bit mine. So being forbidden to take photos I came back a second time with the catalog and on a few pages I copied the words Wenders prepared as side comment to the pictures. It took some time but I enjoyed it and the blue american skies, the Montana empty shops and the atmosphere in the “Hopper style” are now a little bit more part of  my experience! 

Del fascino di scattare in pellicola ho già parlato in questo articolo dove menzionavo appunto Wim Wenders uno dei primi registi a lavorare in digitale nel cinema ma ancora strettamente legato alla pellicola quando fotografa. Anche a me piace spesso scattare con la pellicola per le stesse motivazioni anche se le mie foto non sono certo paragonabili a quelle di Wim! E della mia attrazione per l’America vi avevo parlato qui.

About the fascination to shoot film I already spoke in this post where I reported an interview with Wenders saying to be one of the first movie directors to work with digital technology but still strictly tied to film when it is about still photography. I like as well to shoot film very oft for the same reasons even if my pictures cannot be compared to the ones of Wim! And about my attraction for America I already spoke here.

Ma non ho solo visitato mostre in questo periodo: dopo un lunga pausa di riflessione ho iniziato a lavorare sul dummy del libro, senza titolo ancora sul mio progetto migrante. Ho deciso sarà quadrato 18×18 cm per mantenere l’aspetto intimo di quella che è una storia personale. Dopo una valutazione a computer in questi giorni sto stampando le foto impaginate in questo formato per poter meglio studiare la sequenza delle pagine e la dimensione delle foto stesse. Richiede tempo ma è un’esperienza interessante della quale parlerò presto, per ora un paio di immagini dei lavori in corso.

But I didn’t only visit exhibitions in the last weeks: after I took a long time off to think now I’m ready to work on my book, still without title about my migrant project.  I decided it will be a square book, 18×18 cm in order to keep the intimate feel that a personal story deserves. After a computer evaluation I’m actually printing the pages in order to have them in my hands and better study both the sequence and the size of the pictures within the page. It takes time but it’s also an interesting experience about which I’ll speak soon, by now just a couple of pictures of the …works in progress.

C’è confusione? Si è vero. Ma è dal caos che nascono le cose migliori 🙂 Do you see confusion on my table? Yes, true. But it’s from Chaos that the best things can born 🙂 Amo il cinema.  Ho iniziato parlando di un regista che amo. Purtroppo devo terminare con una nota triste: ieri all’età di 106 anni è mancato Manuel De Oliviera. Ricordo di averlo visto cinque o sei anni fa alla Milanesiana in un  intervista durante un concerto di Patti Smith e mi aveva colpito l’energia e l’entusiasmo con il quale aveva parlato del progetto sul quale stava lavorando.  Ciao Manuel, grazie. Anche a te Buona Pasqua, ovunque tu sia.

I love movies. I started speaking about a movie director I love. Sadly I have to finish with a sad note: yesterday aged 106 died Manuel De Oliveira. I remember having seen him five or six years ago in an interview at the Milanesiana during a concert of Patti Smith and I was surprised by the energy and enthusiasm he had when described a project he was working on. Ciao Manuel, thanks. To you as well an Happy Easter, wherever you are.
