Immagini e ricordi, qualche cosa in più please scroll down for english text, thanks.
I was recently impressed by a sentence by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, which according to my memory said more or less: “it is not so important the life we lived, but what we remember from our life“
One of the reasons for which I photograph is to fix a few starting points to activate my future memories. Sometimes I do it in a documentary style, like in this photo from my recent trip to New York.
Other times I love to use less descriptive images but with more possibilities to play for the phantasy. Like this one included in a project about a journey a little bit special which was taken in Germany on a warm night a few years ago.
Also a simple sektch or a few words on a piece of paper will be able to activate memories in future.
E voi cosa fate per attivare i vostri ricordi?
And how about you? What are you doing to activate your memories?
Of course I am going to activate my memory – you know that already. But I wish I could make those “simple” sketches you draw as well. I love your different styles – still they all show your visual voice. Wish you a great summer, Robert!
Thanks Otto, still a lot to learn about sketches 🙂

Your New York photo is great! Which camera was it taken with? I just finished a whole project surrounding childhood memories. You can see it here: http://www.lillyschwartz.com/gallery/progress-through-demolition
The NYC photo was taken with my Zeiss Super Ikonta on an Ilford Delta Film (I love both Delta 100 and 400 because of the tones and because easy to scan).
I’m going out now, I’ll look for sure at your project tomorrow. ciao

Thanks for posting this approach. I am a perpetual expatriate and move countries every four to five years and my photo collections both help me to ground my memories, as well as to stimulate them.
For sure going through your collection must be an interesting experience. Thanks for commenting.

I take a LOT of photos. When I look at them, I always see something I missed the first time around!
It’s like being in the place a second time!

A wonderful collection of facts and feelings for nurturing the memories.
Our memories are an important part of ourselves.
Grazie Patti, robert
I’ve never done any of that consciously, Robert. All I notice is the process in reverse. Meaning, if I see a picture of my beloved Martha’s Vineyard, I can feel what it felt like when I was there. It makes me long for that island.
Yes, it s like that. And this feeling you have when you look at a picture is what makes so nice and interesting to make pictures, are they photos or drawings.
