Una frase fatta ma siamo a fine anno. Così pensando all’anno trascorso ho deciso un piccolo esercizio:   scegliere una foto per ogni mese e proporla con un breve commento libero, molto libero. Non necessariamente  le foto migliori ma quelle che con un legame con i fatti che hanno caratterizzato quel mese. Almeno per me, la fotografia è sempre una cosa personale.

It’s a full sentence but we are at  the end of the year. So I decided for a small exercise: select a photo for each month and show it here with a short free comment, absolutely free. Not necessary the best photo but the ones with a connection with the facts which haves been special in that month. At least for me, photography is always a personal thing.

Ho sempre trovato affascinanti le bacheche, gli annunci, i bigliettini. In questo caso anche i colori.  E tutti questi parlano di libri.

I have always been fascinated by the notice boards, the messages. In this case colors as well. And all these speak about books.

Avevo 12, forse 14 anni quando mio papà visto che mi piaceva la fotografia mi regalò una macchina simile a questa, in versione più primitiva. Ho ri-imparato ad adoperarla. Mi piace. E’ una Zeiss Super Ikonta.

I was 12, maybe 14 when my father having seen I loved photography bought me a camera similar to this one, a less sophisticated model. I re-learned to use it. I like it. It’s a Zeiss Super Ikonta.

In aprile sono stato a New York con mia moglie. Non era un viaggio fotografico, ma ho portato con me la Zeiss. E’ stato difficile fotografare al memorial dell’ 11 settembre. Un poco per l’emozione, il ricordo del dramma, il pensiero alle vittime. Ho scelto questa foto perché ci sono i nomi. C’è il vuoto. L’ombra e la luce. L’acqua che (forse) purifica. Le persone. I grattacieli.

In april I have been with my wife to New York. It was not a photo journey, but I brought with me the old Zeiss. It was difficult to photograph in the memorial of the 11/09. Because of the emotion, the memory, the drama, thinking of the victims. I selected this photo because there are the names. There is the void. Shadow and light. The water which purifies, maybe. People. Skyscrapers.

Ho dedicato molto tempo all’editing delle foto di New York (non ho ancora finito, sic) e fra le varie possibilità mi sarebbe piaciuto abbinare ad ogni immagine dei testi tratti da canzoni  americane, da autori come Bob Dylan o Patti Smith. Ho fatto più tentativi ma alla fine ho visto che non funzionava. Due linguaggi troppo diversi forse.

I spent a lot of time editing the New York photos (not yet finished, sic) and among the various ideas I tried to combine each image with the text of a song from authors like Bob Dylan or Patti Smith. I made many trials but at the end I gave up because simply it didn’t work. Too different the two languages.

Amo andare per mostre. In giugno siamo stati in Olanda per la mostra dell’amico Machiel, ve ne ho parlato qui e qui. Ma abbiamo visitato mostre anche vicine e non solo fotografiche. Come questa dove esponeva anche l’amico Giacomo.

I love to visit exhibitions. In june we have been in Holland for the show of the friend Machiel, I spoke about here and here.  But we also visited others more near to us. Like this one where among the other our friend Giacomo was exhibiting.

Tornato dall’Olanda volevo fare un piccolo libro con le foto di questo piccolo viaggio. E allora ho selezionato, stampato, fatto sequenze, ho cambiato l’ordine delle sequenze, ho ritagliato, assemblato… ne ho fatte 4 copie più una di prova. Mi piace trasformare le fotografie in qualcosa che si possa tenere in mano, sfogliare, guardare anche con le imperfezioni del processo artigianale.

Back from Holland I wanted to make a small book with the photos from this small journey. Therefore I selected, printed, made sequences, changed the sequences, cut, assembled, I made 4 copies plus one as trial. I like to transform photographs in something we can hold in our hands, leaf through, look at even with the imperfections of the handmade process.

Giocare. Liberarsi dall’ossessione della  perfezione tecnica. Ogni tanto uso la mia Holga. In questa foto mi piacciono le strisce sul paletto a destra e quelle sulla maglietta a sinistra. E’ un gioco.

Play. To free ourselves from the obsession of the technical perfection. Sometimes I use my Holga. In this photo  I like the stripes on the pole on the right side and the ones on the shirt on the left side. A game.

“In the kitchen” è serie che avete già visto fra settembre e ottobre. Sempre per giocare. Per stimolare le sinapsi. Per percorrere un territorio nuovo, almeno per me.

“In the kitchen” is a series you have already seen between september and october. Always to play. To stimulate the synapses. To explore a new territory, at least for me.

Ancora andare per manifestazioni. Fotografiche,  naturalmente. Savignano. E’ fra le cose belle della fotografia, viaggiare, coltivare amicizie. Non solo fare click. Mi accorgo che di Savignano non ho scritto nulla. Rimedierò l’anno prossimo 🙂

Looking for events. Photo events, of course. Savignano. It’s part of the pleasure of photography, travel, making friendships . Not only shooting. I realize I didn’t write anything about Savignano, I’ll do next year 🙂

Desidero chiudere questa selezione con un omaggio a mia moglie Simonetta. Mi è sempre vicina. Nella fotografia. Nella vita. Nei sogni. Questa è una foto scattata una sera buia e piovosa, pochi giorni fa con una piccola Rollei 35. Si, è bello fotografare con la pellicola!

I desire to close this selection with an homage to my wife Simonetta. She’s always on my side. In the photography. In the life. In the dreams. This is a photo I took a few night ago, a cold and rainy night with a small Rollei 35, it’s nice to photograph with film!
