Alla fine dell’estate mia moglie ed io abbiamo deciso di trascorrere qualche giorno al mare. Sentivamo la necessità di un poco di relax con il sole meno rovente e l’aria un poco più fresca che in agosto, e con le spiagge quasi vuote. Da casa nostra al mare il viaggio non è molto lungo, diciamo circa tre ore d’auto. A volte è anche noioso.

At the end of last summer my wife and me decided to spend a few days at the sea. We felt the need for some relax with a less burning sun and fresher air compared to august, and with almost empty beaches. From our house to the sea the journey is not very long, let’s say it takes more or less three hours by car. Sometimes it is also a little bit annoying.

A noi piace l’idea del “road trip”, del viaggio per strada, con la musica dei Canned Heat in sottofondo magari solo nella nostra testa. E’ per questo motivo che spesso quando facciamo queste piccole trasferte deviamo dalla via più diretta, lasciamo l’autostrada e ci inoltriamo su strade secondarie alla scoperta di territori per noi nuovi. E come in questo caso con la compagnia di una macchina fotografica e qualche pellicola ci divertiamo un poco.

We like the idea of the “road trip”, the journey on the road, with the Canned Heat music as background maybe only sounding in our heads. It is for this reason that oft when making our small trips we divert from the main road, we leave the motorway and venture into secondary roads to discover new for us  territories. And as in this case with the company of a photo camera and a few films we have a little fun.

Once there was more life here

Da Acqui Terme ad Albisola sono poco più di 50 km per valicare le Alpi Marittime, è una strada segnata in piccolo sulle carte geografiche. Sarebbe poco più di un’ora d’auto ma noi impieghiamo molto di  più. Perché ci piace guardarci attorno, fermarci nella piazza di un paesino  e bere un caffè nel piccolo bar, che spesso è anche il punto di ritrovo dei pochi abitanti. Amiamo fermarci a guardare le case e le vetrine dei negozi. Fare incontri.

From Acqui to Albisola there are a little more than 50 km to cross the Maritime Alps, it’s a small road even on the maps. It should be a little more than one hour by car but for us it takes much more time. Because we like to look around, to stop in the main (and unique) small square  of a village to drink a coffee in the local bar which oft is the meeting point of the few inhabitants. We love to stop and look at the old houses and the shop windows. And to have surprising encounters.

No more week end journeys! Now time to rest under the apple tree

Tante sono le case abbandonate  che fanno pensare a tempi migliori. Oggigiorno non deve essere facile trovare lavoro in questi villaggi che i giovani stanno lasciando.  Le poche case, i negozi al posto dei supermercati, il distributore di carburante nella piazza del paese, le fattorie al posto delle fabbriche ci danno anche l’impressione di fare un viaggio in un tempo diverso, un tempo vuoto, un tempo lento, oserei dire un tempo di molti anni fa.

Many abandoned houses let think of better times. Nowadays it must be not easy to find a job in these villages which the young people are leaving. The few houses, the shops instead of large supermarkets, the gas station in the village square, the small farms instead of factories give us the feeling of a journey in another time, an empty time, a slow time, I would dare to say a time from many years ago.
